The legal technology company Clio has named Curt Sigfstead, a veteran technology, finance and investments professional, as its new chief financial officer.
Sigfstead was formerly CFO at Clearco, a Toronto-based fintech company that provides growth capital to e-commerce businesses through a unique model in which the investment is repaid through revenue sharing.
The news comes two months after Clio announced the expansion of its leadership team, naming four people to C-suite positions as chief operating officer, chief people officer, chief technology officer and chief marketing officer.
At Clearco, Sigfstead managed revenue growth of more than 100% and led the company’s $125 million Series C financing, increasing its Series C valuation six-fold to more than $2 billion.
Before joining Clearco, Sigfstead was with J.P. Morgan for nearly 23 years, most recently as head of West Coast technology investment banking. For 18 years, he was managing director and global head of technology systems investment banking.
“I’m thrilled to welcome Curt to Clio’s executive leadership team,” said Jack Newton, CEO and cofounder. “His extensive experience in capital raising, venture investing, and successful market launches could not come at a better time as we continue to grow and expand our market position and offerings.”
The company said that it will benefit from Sigfstead’s wealth of experience leading and advising some of the technology sector’s largest M&A deals and raising billions of dollars of capital across public and private debt and equity markets.
“Clio is made up of an ambitious team, constantly improving and disrupting the status quo. I am thrilled to join the company as we build on that success,” said Sigfstead. “This is a formative era for Clio, and I am confident that we can develop and execute on our goals. I look
forward to working with Jack and the wider Clio team.”
Sigfstead is taking over as CFO from Rob Froment, who is retiring after having been Clio’s CFO since 2014. During his tenure at Clio, Froment played an central role in the company’s growth, overseeing its three acquisitions, leading the Series D and E funding rounds, and overseeing the launch of Clio Payments.
As CFO, Sigfstead’s responsibilities encompass all finance functions, including accounting, treasury, financial planning and analysis, legal, and corporate development.
