For my column this week at Above the Law, I do some ruminating on the evolving role of law librarians, particularly with regard to legal technology.

The news hook for my column was a just-published study from the American Association of Law Libraries, the inaugural AALL State of the Profession report, an in-depth look at what information professionals do and how they do it.

But I’d already been thinking about librarians’ changing roles and responsibilities, having been up against a deadline to finish a book chapter on the future of AI in law libraries. And it’s a topic I’ve visited here several times over the years.

The bottom line: Technology is making the role of the law librarian more diverse and more essential than ever before.
