Smith.ai, a virtual receptionist service serving law firms and other businesses, now offers recording and transcription of all inbound and outbound calls, giving its customers access to the full conversations that the company handles on their behalves.

Smith.ai says it is the first virtual receptionist service to release call recording and transcription.

For law firms, this means that they can have access to the verbatim audio and text of calls from clients, potential clients, and others, which could prove valuable if questions later arise about a conversation.

Smith.ai says it uses AI to transcribe the audio with human-level accuracy, creating searchable transcripts that law firms can search from their Smith.ai dashboard using keywords and phrases.

Callers’ personally identifiable information — such as credit card and Social Security numbers — is automatically redacted.

The company says the feature can also enable firms to improve client service by going back and hearing or reading exactly what they called about, in their own words.

By default, the recordings and transcripts are stored in a firm’s dashboard for 90 days.

The call recording and transcription feature is an add-on to a Smith.ai subscription that costs 25 cents per call. The cost of the virtual receptionist service starts at $240 a month and varies from there depending on numbers of calls and included features.
