My Most Popular Posts of 2018

What goes around comes around, as they say. In 2010, I started compiling a year-end list of my most-popular blog posts. That year, my most popular post was a first look at the newest version of Westlaw, WestlawNext. Fast forward to 2018, and my most popular post this year was a first look at the newest version of Westlaw, Westlaw Edge.

In fact, news about Westlaw’s parent company, Thomson Reuters, occupied three of the top spots this year among my most popular posts. The other two were not about TR products, but about TR’s restructurings, both with layoffs and management changes.

Also popular this year were posts about Utah’s licensing of paralegals to practice law, the shutdown of Avvo Legal Services, and the launch of Text A Lawyer. Interestingly, a post I published just two days ago, The 20 Most Important Legal Technology Developments of 2018, made the list, and if I waited a day or two to publish this, it would no doubt be even higher.

As I’ve done every year since 2010 (2017, 20162015, 2014, 2013, 2012, 2011, 2010), I hereby offer my most popular posts of 2018. Note that I have two lists. First I list the 15 most popular posts of 2018, listing only posts first published during 2018. After that, I list the most popular posts of the year, without regard to the year the post was originally published. In both cases, the rankings are based only on 2018 traffic, not all-time traffic.

Neither ranking includes two static pages that are consistently in the top 10, my list of legal tech startups and my tally of the states that have adopted the duty of technology competence.
